Meet Sara of Shy Siren

Grateful To Do What I Love

Sara Schwittek of Shy Siren Jewelry

People ask me all the time:
Why ‘Shy Siren’?

For me, to be a ‘Shy Siren’ is to feel beautiful, sensual & alluring in your own unique, understated way–inside & out. Just the right amount of demure + confidence, romance + irreverence… a balance of timelessness & edge, grit + sparkle.

Celebrate the complex dualities that make up your whole–and express that spirit!

THE SHY SIREN EXPERIENCE

My jewelry is made with near-obsessive amounts of love, detail +  attention. Each design is created with an eye toward both aesthetics + functionality. I take great pleasure in the play of light and the textures of the materials I work with.

Each piece is lovingly presented to delight the recipient: I infuse joy into each piece, and then it is diligently placed into a sheer organza gift bag and gift box, tied with a sheer ribbon...

This is more than just a piece of jewelry to me; it is my hope that opening the box is an experience of anticipation + exuberance for the receiver... the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself -- a little wearable sculpture that speaks to who you are, and what you wish to express to the outside world.

I hope you'll find pieces in my Shy Siren jewelry collection that whisper to your inner & outer Siren too.

LIFE-LONG LOVE OF DESIGN

I've always loved color and making pretty things. After all these years, it seems like a pretty natural progression to end up making jewelry all day long.

After graduating from Cornell University's College of Architecture, I ventured to New York City to work in the architectural design industry. In 1998, I left the profession to co-launch Four Eyes Productions, a web design & development studio, where I was partner & Chief-Pixel-Pusher for over 15 years. Now, more than 20 years after we began our little e-dream, Four Eyes is still going strong. This ecommerce website was developed by Michael over at Four Eyes -- of course! I still absolutely love graphic design; it can be such a wonderful "digital" complement to making very "analog" jewelry!

My diverse background in all-things-design (architectural, graphic + photographic) gives me a unique lens through which to view the world of jewelry. I design each piece with an eye toward both aesthetics and functionality (form + function), the play of light (reflected vs transmitted), and the the textures (rough vs perfect) of the materials.

LIFE + LOVE OUTSIDE THE STUDIO

I currently live, work & play in the artistic, funky & eclectic neighborhood of NoDa in Charlotte, North Carolina. Every day, I pinch myself that this is the job I am get to do. I am one of those fortunate people who actually looks forward to Monday mornings. So, so, SO incredibly grateful... THANK *YOU*...

When I'm not in the jewelry studio, you can usually find me behind a camera, on the yoga mat, dreaming about a trip to either a far-away land or to a gritty-dirty-energizing city, or exploring the diverse natural beauty that North Carolina has to offer.
